Overview

Rabat, Morocco’s capital and a UNESCO World Heritage city, is one of the most pleasant and relaxed cities in the country. From Fes it is around two and a half to three hours each way by motorway, so this is a long day. The train is an alternative if you prefer.

You visit the Hassan Tower, the unfinished 12th-century minaret, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V with its guards in ceremonial uniform. You then walk through the blue and white lanes of the Kasbah of the Udayas, overlooking the mouth of the Bou Regreg river and the ocean. If time allows, the Chellah necropolis with its Roman and Merinid ruins completes the day.

Highlights

  • Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V
  • Kasbah of the Udayas and the Andalusian Gardens
  • Views over the Atlantic and the Bou Regreg
  • Chellah necropolis (time permitting)
  • Rabat’s relaxed medina
