Meknes, Volubilis & Moulay Idriss Day Trip
Fes → Volubilis → Moulay Idriss → Meknes → Fes
Overview
This classic day trip from Fes covers more than two thousand years of Moroccan history. Volubilis was an important Roman city in the province of Mauretania Tingitana. Its triumphal arch, basilica columns and floor mosaics stand in open fields and are listed by UNESCO.
Nearby, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun spreads over two hills around the tomb of Idriss I, founder of the first Moroccan dynasty, and is one of the country’s most important pilgrimage towns. The day ends in Meknes, the imperial capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, with its monumental Bab Mansour gate, the vast granaries and the lively El Hedim square.
