Middle Atlas Lakes & Imouzzer Kandar Day Trip
Fes → Imouzzer Kandar → Dayet Aoua → Dayet Ifrah → Ifrane → Fes
Overview
The plateau above Fes is dotted with natural lakes, or dayets, surrounded by oak and cedar forests. This trip starts in Imouzzer Kandar, a small hill town about 35 kilometres from Fes known for its springs and apple orchards, then continues along the “lakes circuit” through the Middle Atlas countryside.
Dayet Aoua and Dayet Ifrah are the best known. Their water levels depend heavily on rainfall, and in dry years some lakes shrink significantly or dry out, so we adapt the route to current conditions. Even then, the forests, birdlife, shepherds and wide landscapes make it a peaceful day away from the medina.
