Taza, Friouato Caves & Tazekka Day Trip
Fes → Taza → Tazekka National Park → Friouato cave → Fes
Overview
Taza sits on the historic corridor between the Rif and the Middle Atlas, roughly one and a half to two hours east of Fes. Above the town, Tazekka National Park protects cedar and oak forests and limestone landscapes full of caves.
The highlight is the Friouato cave, one of the largest cave systems in North Africa. Access involves a long staircase of several hundred steps down a vast natural shaft, then guided passages among stalactites. It is physically demanding, so this trip is best for active travellers. The return can include the Taza medina and a viewpoint over the Inaouene valley.
