Oukaimeden Mountain Day Trip
Marrakech → Ourika Valley → Oukaimeden plateau → Marrakech
Overview
Oukaimeden is a mountain plateau about an hour and a half from Marrakech, at around 2,600 metres. In winter, when there is enough snow, it becomes Morocco’s best-known ski station, with simple lifts and equipment rental. The rest of the year it is a peaceful area of high pastures, shepherds and wide views over the Atlas.
The plateau is also home to prehistoric rock engravings, carved by ancient herders, which can be seen with a local guide. The road climbs through the Ourika valley before rising in hairpin bends to the plateau. It is a refreshing trip in summer and a surprising one in winter, when you can go from palm trees to snow in a morning.
