Overview
This short desert escape is designed for travellers who want a real taste of southern Morocco but only have two days. You leave Marrakech in the morning, cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka pass and explore the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou before following the Draa Valley, a long ribbon of palm groves and earthen villages, down to Zagora.
At the edge of the desert, camels take you to a camp among the dunes for sunset, dinner and a night under the stars. The dunes near Zagora are smaller than the great Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, which is too far for a two-day round trip. The reward here is the variety of landscapes packed into a short time. Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1
Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Zagora desert camp
Morning pick-up at your riad or hotel. The road climbs through Berber villages to the Tizi n’Tichka pass before descending to Ait Ben Haddou, where you have time to walk up through the fortified village. After lunch (not included) near Ouarzazate, continue via Agdz and the Draa Valley with its palm groves and kasbahs. Near Zagora, meet your camels and ride to the camp for sunset, dinner and the night.

Day 2
Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Wake up early for sunrise over the dunes, then ride back for breakfast. The return drive retraces the Draa Valley and crosses the High Atlas again, with stops for photos and lunch. Arrival in Marrakech in the early evening.

Frequently asked questions
Are the dunes in Zagora like the Sahara photos?
They are much smaller than Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. Choose this tour for the journey and the camp experience; choose Merzouga (3 days minimum) for the tallest dunes.
How long is the drive each day?
Around 7 hours of driving each way, spread over the day with regular stops.
Can we skip the camel ride?
Yes, the camp can usually be reached by vehicle on request.
