2 Days Fes to Merzouga Desert Tour
Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Erfoud → Merzouga → Fes
Overview
Fes is the closest imperial city to the Erg Chebbi dunes, which makes a two-day desert trip possible. The drive south crosses the Middle Atlas through Ifrane and the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques live, then the high plains around Midelt and the spectacular Ziz Gorges before reaching Merzouga.
A camel ride takes you into the dunes for sunset and a night at camp. After sunrise you return to Fes by the same scenic road. The two driving days are long (around eight hours each), so this tour is best for travellers who are short on time. With one more day, the 3 Days Fes to Merzouga Desert Tour adds a full day in the desert.
