Overview
This one-way route starts close to the Sahara and ends in Marrakech. From Errachidia you reach Merzouga in about two hours, with time for Erfoud and Rissani before a camel ride into the dunes and a night at camp.
The following days follow the road of a thousand kasbahs west through the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, past the Valley of Roses, Skoura and Ouarzazate, to Ait Ben Haddou and over the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech. It is the most efficient way to see the desert if you arrive by air in the south-east.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1
Errachidia – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga desert camp
Drive south along the Ziz oasis to Erfoud and Rissani, then ride camels into Erg Chebbi for sunset and a night at camp.

Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Sunrise over the dunes, then west to the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley for the night.

Dades – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Valley of Roses, Skoura, Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou, then the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech.
